Department of Mathematics

Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics has been instrumental in the functioning of the college since its inception in 1989. Mathematics was being taught to the students of other disciplines. The department is located on the second floor of the Academic Block. The department, at present has a well equipped lab with 30 high-speed P-IV computers with broadband internet facility. The systems are installed with mathematical and statistical software such as MATLAB and SPSS. The department is in the process of expanding the infrastructure facilities by adding on with another lab with 30 more such systems. Since 2016, the department is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics. The course is designed in such a manner that the students are taught the theoretical concepts in the lecture classes and then they are exposed to the practical concepts using the available software. The department offers ample opportunities to students to explore and pursue research interests. The department has a society by the name of “RAMANARYA” constituted by the students. The society conducts lectures and seminars by eminent mathematicians on regular basis. The department along with the departments of Instrumentation, Biochemistry has completed an innovation project in the year 2015. In 2016, the department is involved in three such projects with the departments of Instrumentation, Electronics and Biochemistry. Ten students are chosen for each project from various departments along with three faculty members and a mentor. The students are paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000/-.
