DEPARTMENT OF Biomedical Science

B. Sc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science is a four-year undergraduate programme under the NEP scheme. The department was established in the year 2005 with the objective to provide a strong platform to students for a robust knowledge base and skillsets required for a career in Biological Science.

The Biomedical Science course equips the students with knowledge and transferable skills necessary for a career in research in both basic and applied sciences. The students graduating from this course join pharmaceutical companies and pursue higher education in reputed institutes like TIFR, IISERs, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), NII, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to name a few. The course also provides avenues for self-employment such as establishing a diagnostic laboratory, freelance license inspector for pollution control in industries, setting up of a biotechnology unit for production of commercially available products, besides endless vistas for those interested in research in the any field of applied biology.

The students’ society of the department, “Chimera”, organises seminars and interactive sessions with eminent academicians and entrepreneurs to keep the students abreast with latest research and technological advancements. The departmental scientific festival, “Plexus” is an annual feature of the department, wherein students organise, participate, and engage in other intellectual and scientific discussions.

The department regularly organizes Seminars, Conferences & Workshops. The multidisciplinary faculty in the department explore the molecular, cellular and physiological mechanisms underlying the living world. The department is actively involved in research projects including student internships, hands on training and summer projects. Regular visits to various reputed research institutes and industries like RCB, Dabur India Limited, NBRC, JNU, AIIMS and ICGEB are also organised.

The Department of Biomedical Science has five well-equipped labs namely

  • Biotechnology Lab
  • Cell Biology Lab
  • Research Lab
  • Microbiology Lab
  • Bioinformatics Lab

The Department has state of the art laboratory facility with latest equipment including thermocycler, UV spectrophotometer, multiple gel electrophoresis units, centrifuges, shakers, autoclaves, rotary vacuum, laminar flow, microscopes, gel documentation unit which makes learning experience worthwhile and helps in the better understanding of the subjects. The course equips the students with knowledge and skills necessary for a career in research in both basic and applied sciences.

Departmental Library: The Department has a library with a reading room. The Departmental library has 50 books.

Internet facilities for Staff & Students: The Department has system with Internet facility. It is available for staff to access web.
