Equal Opportunity Development Cell

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of the college has been established with a view to empower the marginalized, particularly students with disabilities and to give them equal opportunities in higher education. The cell disseminates information regarding the various welfare schemes related to such students and also provides facilities and assistance through counseling and remedial classes.

India is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). Article 9 of UNCRPD casts an obligation on all the signatory governments to take appropriate measures to ensure to persons with disabilities access, on an equal basis with others to the physical environment.

It is a vision of the Government to have an inclusive society, in which equal opportunities and access is provided for the growth and development of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to lead productive, safe and dignified life. Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 categorically provides for non-discrimination in built environment.

Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) was launched by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, 3rd December 2015 as a nation- wide program for achieving universal accessibility for Persons with Disabilities.

In compliance with the above, EOC has been functional for quite long. It shifted to new building in 2012 and all efforts were made to make it disabled friendly. In accordance with above it got ramps in all its buildings including academic block, administrative block and hostel. Wheel chairs and accessible toilets too have been provided all over the buildings. Lifts have been provided in academic block and PWD has been requested to explore the possibility of providing lifts in hostel and administrative block for barrier free environment to auditorium and library. In addition, the library of the College has computers with assistive software for visually impaired students.

  • Provision of following has been ensured for persons with benchmark disability to effectively discharge their duties in the College.
    • Barrier free environment: the College building is already barrier free hostel building is also barrier fee while proposal for lift is being explored.
    • All facilities as per requirements for persons with benchmark disability within the guidelines of competent authority.
  • The posts suitable for persons with disabilities are identified and approved by nodal officer University of Delhi on the recommendation of liaison officer of the College as per guidelines of University of Delhi.
  • The manner of selection of persons with disabilities for various posts, post recruitment and pre-promotion training, preference in transfer and posting, special leave, preference in allotment of residential accommodation as all facilities have been extended as adopted and approved by University of Delhi.
  • Provision of aids/assistive devices, computers and other hardware in accordance with requirement.
  • To look after the recruitment of persons with disabilities and provisions of facilitates and amenities for such employees Dr.MohdSaquib Ansari has been appointed as Liaison Officer of the College.
