SPIC MACAY, The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world. SPIC MACAY was established by Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT Delhi. SPIC MACAY’s intention is to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it. It seeks to inspire youth through experiencing the mysticism embodied in the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of Indian and World Heritage, with a hope that the beauty, grace, values, and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being. For this, the most accomplished artistes of the country render programs of Indian classical music and dance, folk, poetry, theatre, traditional paintings, crafts & yoga. Every year, SPIC MACAY arranges numerous programs, attended by 500+students. All these programs are organized by many of volunteers – largely students and teachers. SPIC MACAY celebrates NishkaamSeva - the spirit of volunteerism – of giving selflessly without expectation, a value that is intrinsic to our culture and important to nurture in today's world. We the volunteers of SPIC MACAY at Shaheed Rajguru College organise several programs every year for our college with the constant help of SPIC MACAY. In 2018 we had our first program of Qawwali by the talented and well known “The Qutbi Brothers”. VIRASAT is a traditional series of SPIC MACAY Festival, a week long cultural extravaganza to celebrate the variety and richness of Indian Cultural Heritage. SPIC MACAY -Shaheed Rajguru Chapter had VIRASAT for the first time in 2020. The volunteers were excited for the virasat series because it Brings forth a bouquet of eminent artists and performers from across the country, the festival provides an opportunity to the students to know, understand, appreciate and imbibe their own culture. Throughout the virasat’20 students and teachers of Shaheed Rajguru College worked tirelessly to make each and every program a success and hence showing their spirit of volunteerism for SPIC MACAY.
